The new Fortnite patch update provides some quality-of-life improvements to the game that will help improve gameplay. One of the new changes is the added gyro controls on gyro-supported platforms with flick stick controls as well. The changes with flick stick were made in a collaboration between the Fortnite development team and flick stick creator Julian “Jibb” Smart.

Of course, Fortnite already had gyro-based controls for the game on the Nintendo Switch and Android. However, what’s different is that “more robust gyro controls” were added to the game on both the Switch and Android as well as the PS4, PS5, and PC with the new patch update. Players can enable the gyro control and flick stick options in the “Touch and Motion” tab of Fortnite’s settings. There’s also a video by Jibb that was released to help explain the new gyro control options.0

According to Jibb, the new gyro controls in the game will let players have a more natural command over their camera and weapon, whether they are holding the controller “upright, flat, or somewhere in-between.” Players will be able to turn the camera by just turning the controller, and gyro aiming allows for better aim adjustments in the game. If players enable gyro controls without changing anything else, gyro aiming will only be active while pressing the aim button or editing a building. That way, it doesn’t interfere with regular gameplay.

While gyro aiming is active, players can still use the right controller stick as normal for camera movements and gyro aiming for lining up their shots and tracking moving targets. Players who decide to always keep “gyro aiming” on can customize their controls so that they have a “gyro modifier button” while playing. According to the video, pressing and holding this gyro modifier button will disable gyro aiming to let players reposition their controller without messing up their camera.

When gyro controls are enabled, players can use the flick stick option to rotate the game’s camera by rotating the right stick. Flick stick controls let players point the right stick in any direction to make a smooth, quick turn in that direction. When flick stick is enabled, rotating the stick will rotate the game camera, which gives players fast and direct control in Fortnite. However, flick stick doesn’t let players turn the camera up and down, so players will need to have gyro controls enabled while using flick stick in Fortnite.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
