The event was confirmed via both an in-game poster near the Risky Reels location as well as a new movie intro-sequence on the big screen itself. Both confirm the same details, that Fortnite is partnering with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker for an exclusive, live screen premiere for Fortnite players. Not only that, but the posters also tease the involvement of the film’s director, J.J. Abrams. Exactly how Abrams will be involved in the event is unclear, but he’ll likely provide an audio introduction or something similar.

Fans will be able to watch the exclusive scene reveal for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 14. According to the teasers for the event, “doors” will open at 10:30 am PT and the “show” will start at 11:00 am PT. That means that Fortnite players can start matching for a game after 10:30 am PT and they should be placed in a safe match where they can watch the clip without being killed. Just make sure to get to Risky Reels before the 2:00 pm PT start time.

This isn’t the first time that Epic Games has partnered to offer a special reward for Star Wars fans. Those who purchased Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on the Epic Games Store were rewarded with an Imperial Stormtrooper skin. The skin was also available in-game for a pricey 1,500 V-Bucks. The exclusive scene reveal is clearly the more exciting and important of the partnerships.

It just goes to show how big of a deal Fortnite remains in video game industry and beyond that the biggest movie of the year wants to use it as a platform for advertising. Disney isn’t just debuting a new trailer, or an old one for that matter, but an entirely new scene from the film. That Disney sees Fortnite as worthy of such a reveal shows that even in late 2019, Fortnite remains a key game in the industry. Or its players are at least a key demographic Disney is hoping to get into theaters on December 20 to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
